A Spicy Bloody Mary Recipe to Cure Your Brunch Blues
Sunday mornings. Sometimes they're filled with sunshine and leisurely strolls. Other times, well, let's just say they call for a pick-me-up. Enter the Bloody Mary, that brunchtime classic that's both savory and satisfying. But why settle for ordinary when you can crank it up a notch with a spicy dill pickle twist?
This recipe takes the traditional Bloody Mary base and infuses it with the tangy, briny goodness of dill pickles. A kick of hot sauce and horseradish adds heat, while celery seed and black pepper bring depth of flavor. It's the perfect drink to chase away the cobwebs and get your day started on the right foot.
Making the Spice Dill Pickle Blood Mary
This spicy dill pickle bloody Mary has become one of our traditional tailgating drinks for early start football game. It requires just a handful of ingredients and can be easily modified based on your individual tastes.
Ingredients for the Spicy Bloody Mary
The following recipe is enough to make 2 spicy dill pickle Bloody Mary's, or one really big one. Here is what you will need.
- ¼ teaspoon celery seed or celery salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1.25 cups vegetable juice or tomato juice (V8 works great here!)
- ¼ cup Pickle infused vodka (adjust to your preference)
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
- ⅛ teaspoon prepared horseradish
- 1-2 dashes hot sauce (Tabasco is a good option, but feel free to experiment!)
- Dash of Worcestershire Sauce
- bamboo skewers (optional, for garnishes)
- Pickled vegetables of your choice (eggs, okra, green beans, or classic dill pickles!)
- Celery stalks (for garnish)
Instructions for mixing the drink:
Rim the glasses: Get creative! Pour the dill pickle juice into a shallow dish. On another plate, combine some excess celery seed, and black pepper to make a spicy rim flavoring. Dip the rim of your glasses in the pickle juice, then dredge them through the spice mixture. Pop the glasses in the fridge or freezer to let the rim set. Other favorite cocktail rims for the Bloody Mary include Tajin, salt and Worcestershire powder, or bacon salt.
Mix the magic: In a large glass, combine the vegetable juice, pickle vodka, lime juice, horseradish, hot sauce, and spices. Stir well to combine. Let the mixture chill in the fridge for at least an hour to allow the flavors to meld.
Garnishes: If you're feeling fancy, thread your favorite pickled goodies onto skewers for a fun and easy garnish. Mini pickles, gherkins, cocktail onions, and tomatoes, all make great choices as do classics like celery and cherry tomatoes. For a real treat, garnish with our Bloody Mary Seasoned Bacon.
Serve it up! Serve your spicy dill pickle Bloody Mary in the spice rimmed mason jars, pint jars or your favorite glass. Fill your glasses with ice. Pour the Bloody Mary mixture over the ice, dividing it evenly. Garnish with your chosen skewered pickles.
Tips and Tricks
- Want it extra spicy? Add a few slices of fresh jalapeño to the pitcher while it chills, or add a little more hot sauce to taste.
