This is one of my wife's new favorite fall cocktails. As we enter firepit season, she likes to relax by the fire and sip on this warming cocktail while the kids try to squeeze in the last bit of outside play before the weather forces them inside. This Fall Bourbon Blitz only requires a few common ingredients and is super easy to make.

Making the Fall Bourbon Cocktail
Ingredients
This fall bourbon cocktail is made with apple cider, spiked with bourbon. You will also need some fresh lemon juice and can optionally add some Aperol, for a hint of bitterness.
Apple Cider- Select a high quality apple cider for your cocktail. We are fortunate enough to have a number of local cider mills near us so we always have excess fresh apple cider.
Extra apple cider? Why not try making our Apple Cider Turkey Brine for the holidays.
Bourbon-We prefer to use a wheat based bourbon for this recipe like Weller or Maker's Mark as they tend to be sweeter and less harsh. You can use your favorite bourbon, however.
Lemon Juice-Fresh squeezed lemon adds a little acidity and tang to the cider based cocktail. Always use fresh lemon if possible.
Aperol-Aperol is an Italian bitter that is perfect for rounding out the apple cider bourbon cocktail with a hint of bitterness. If you do not have Aperol, you can substitute a dash of regular bitters or admit it if desired.
Cinnamon-A dash of cinnamon adds some warming spice to the Autumn Bourbon cocktail. A little goes a long way, so don't overdo it.
Mix your Bourbon and Cider Cocktail
To finish this fall bourbon drink simply combine 4 ounces of apple cider, with 2 ounces of bourbon, and juice of ½ a lemon, then add a dash of cinnamon. Add a dash of Aperol, if desired. Mix well and pour into a highball with some ice. The drink can also be served straight up. If you want to pretty it up a bit, garnish with an apple slice and a cinnamon stick.

A traditional Whiskey Blitz cocktail consists of whiskey and lemon juice with sugar or simple syrup. A whiskey Blitz is similar to a Whiskey Sour, but does not contain egg white, which is traditionally used in a sour.
