How to make a Mexican Style Cheesesteak
This Mexican Philly cheesesteak recipe is surprisingly easy to whip up, making it perfect for those easy dinners we all crave after a long day. This isn't just a sandwich; it's a culinary adventure! So grab your apron, and let's get cooking!
Ingredients: Here's what you'll need
Beef steak: You can use thinly sliced ribeye, New York Strip of do with a traditional carne asada style and use skirt steak. We typically get the sliced New York strip steak for Shabu Shabu at our local Costco, or you can have your butcher thinly slice the steak for you. You will need about 2 pounds
White onion: We use thinly sliced white onion, though you can substitute other types of onion.

Red or green bell pepper: We prefer red for that extra pop of color. The pepper needs to be cored, seeded, and sliced.
Jalapeno green chiles: We typically use 2-3 jalapeno peppers. We like to slice them across into coins.
Hoagie style deli rolls: This Mexican cheesesteak recipe will make roughly 6 hoagies. Use your favorite hoagie or sandwich rolls.
Queso Blanco: Traditional Mexican white queso works best. You can substitute your favorite cheese sauce or dip.

For the Marinade: To make the marinade for the carne asada style steak, you will need a handful of common ingredients.
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Adobo Seasoning: Feel free to use your favorite
- Garlic powder
- 1 Orange
- 2 Limes
- Ground Cumin
- Ground Paprika
- Oregano (preferably Mexican)
- White Vinegar
- Black Pepper
- Kosher Salt

Let's Get Cooking: Step by Step Instructions
Prep Your Veggies: Thinly slice the white onion. Core, deseed, and thinly slice the bell pepper. Slice the jalapenos (we prefer to cut them into rings because we think it looks better, but thin slices work as well).
Prepare the marinade: Add all of the spices and seasonings in a bowl with the minced garlic, and white vinegar. Juice both the the limes and the orange and mix well.
Marinate the meat: Add the steak to the bowl of marinade and mix well to season all of the meat. Cover and place in a refrigerator for 4 hours. Do not go much longer than 4 hours as the meat will start to get mushy if you over marinate it.

Sauté the Veggies: Heat a little cooking oil in a large skillet or on a Blackstone or griddle over medium-high heat. Add the onions, jalapenos and bell peppers and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are tender and slightly golden brown, about 4-6 minutes. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.

Cook Up the Beef: Return the skillet or griddle to medium-high heat (add a little oil if the pan looks dry). Add the thin strips of beef and cook, stirring frequently, for about 2-3 minutes. Sprinkle with a little more adobo seasoning if desired. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the beef is cooked through and slightly browned.
