White Castle Holiday Stuffing
Long ago there were rumors and rumblings of a turkey stuffing made from White Castle sliders. It was certainly the stuff of legend for every college co-ed heading home for Thanksgiving.
This is our, slightly altered, version of that fast food take on a Thanksgiving favorite. Thankfully for everyone, this White Castle Hamburger Stuffing recipe can be prepared in fast food fashion, and ready for the table in short order.
Making the White Castle Holiday Stuffing
This recipe can be easily doubled for a bigger crowd, but we have scaled it down for a family of about 4-6.
To make the stuffing you will want to use 6 frozen white castle sliders, without cheese or pickles. We find the frozen bread best mimics the stale bread of traditional stuffing. You can certainly use fresh White Castle sliders but the major problem we have found is that they all seem to disappear before we make it home.
As always, we prefer fresh herbs but lets be real, this is a White Castle stuffing, so replace with dried herbs if you want. You will need about 1 teaspoon each of thyme and sage for the hamburger stuffing recipe.
Prep the stuffing ingredients
Start by cubing the burgers and dicing the herbs and celery. Use a high quality chicken or turkey stock for best results.
This recipe calls for raw celery, so it has a little crunch. If you prefer, you can also sauté the celery in butter, until softened, and then add to the hamburger slider stuffing.
Next, combine the cubed burger, herbs, and celery in a bowl, then mix with the chicken broth (turkey broth works great too). Mix well to make sure everything is well combined.
Next, add the mixture to a well-greased baking dish and preheat your oven or smoker to 350 degrees. It is easy to make this hamburger slider stuffing in the oven, or if you are smoking a turkey, the stuffing can be made on a smoker as well.
Bake the White Castle Slider Dressing
Bake the White Castle stuffing for about 25 minutes. For a richer flavor, and more browned appearance, drizzle some melted butter over the top of the stuffing before baking.
What to Serve with White Castle Hamburger Stuffing
This recipe goes great with any Thanksgiving meal but is absolutely perfect with our smoked turkey breast or Smoked Turkey Roulade: Rolled Turkey Breast with Fresh Herbs, Black Garlic, and Prosciutto. Top the meal off with Smoked Giblet Gravy and a Fall Bourbon Blitz: Bourbon Spiked Apple Cider.
